In the U.S. state of Alabama, a deadly incident occurred: the owner of a Ford C-Max was found dead behind the wheel. The tragedy happened back in 2023, but gained public attention only recently. Investigators concluded that the cause of death was hydrogen sulfide poisoning that had leaked into the cabin.
Specialists determined that the car had a ventilation system, but its piping had been installed incorrectly. Instead of venting gases outside, the toxic compound leaked into the interior, creating a lethal concentration.
The family of the deceased has filed a lawsuit accusing the manufacturer and dealers of negligence. According to them, the design flaw could have been identified both at the project-development stage and during assembly. The plaintiffs also emphasize that the car lacks any warning systems for gas leaks or accumulation.
The case has sparked widespread reaction, raising concerns that hybrids – generally considered safe and environmentally friendly – can still pose serious risks.
