Chinese automaker Chery has become embroiled in controversy on social media after an anonymous post alleged that one of the company’s executives was involved in a physical altercation with a dealership representative. The company has denied the accusations and escalated the matter through legal channels.
On June 3, 2026, Chery’s legal department released an official statement describing reports circulating on Chinese social media platforms, automotive forums and short-video services about a conflict with a dealer as malicious rumors that were “entirely fabricated”.
The company confirmed that it has already begun tracing the source of the rumors and collecting evidence related to their distribution. Chery has filed a report with public security authorities and stated its intention to pursue legal action against individuals and accounts involved in creating and spreading the content.
The original versions of the rumors did not mention a specific automaker. However, subsequent discussions on social media linked the story to Chery. Several sources referred to the Hengxin Auto dealership group, although the company’s official statement does not mention any specific individuals, dealerships or managers.
