Volvo is preparing a major update of its model lineup, with the fully electric Volvo EX60 set to become one of the brand’s most important releases in the coming years. The new SUV is designed as the electric successor to the legendary XC60, Volvo’s best-selling model for many years.
The EX60 aims to be more than just a replacement – it is positioned as a technological breakthrough not only for Volvo, but for the entire premium mid-size SUV segment. The model promises performance and efficiency figures that until recently were considered unattainable for mass-produced electric SUVs.
At the core of the EX60 is the new SPA3 platform, developed from scratch exclusively for electric vehicles. Thanks to deep energy-efficiency optimization and next-generation battery architecture, the flagship versions are expected to deliver up to 810 km of range (WLTP) – a figure comparable to long-range electric sedans and a major step toward eliminating range anxiety on long highway journeys. The model will be available in three versions: P12 AWD Electric with a range of up to 810 km (WLTP), P10 AWD Electric offering up to 660 km (WLTP), and P6 Electric with rear-wheel drive capable of covering up to 620 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
The SUV will also feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging. With compatible charging infrastructure, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% will take under 20 minutes, making the EX60 competitive with the fastest-charging EVs on the market.
Visually, the EX60 follows Volvo’s new design language introduced with the flagship EX90. Expect clean, minimalistic lines, a closed front panel instead of a traditional grille, and signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights with pixel technology. Inside, the EX60 embodies Scandinavian eco-luxury: extensive use of recycled materials, a complete rejection of natural leather, and a large central display running Google-based infotainment software.
Safety remains a key pillar of Volvo’s strategy. The EX60 is expected to come equipped with LiDAR technology as standard, enabling advanced driver-assistance systems and laying the groundwork for future autonomous driving capabilities.
With the launch of the EX60, Volvo aims to firmly establish itself as a leader in the premium EV segment and significantly accelerate its transition toward a fully electric lineup by 2030.
