Geely is developing a new off-road SUV designed to enter the large SUV segment and compete with established models such as the Land Rover Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser. The project is aimed at the C- and D-class SUV categories and is expected to combine strong off-road capabilities with modern electronic technologies.
According to preliminary information, the upcoming model will feature a hybrid powertrain built around a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor. The combined system output is expected to reach 350–380 horsepower and around 600 Nm of torque. Such performance could allow the large SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5.5–6 seconds, an impressive figure for a vehicle of this size.
One of the most notable technological features is expected to be a steer-by-wire system. Unlike traditional steering systems, steer-by-wire eliminates the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels. Instead, steering inputs are transmitted electronically, allowing the system to adjust steering sensitivity depending on speed and driving conditions.
The SUV is also expected to include advanced off-road driving modes, enabling the vehicle’s electronics to automatically adjust drivetrain, gearbox, and suspension settings depending on terrain such as sand, mud, or rocky surfaces. To enhance off-road capability, the vehicle will feature all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance, estimated at around 220–230 mm.
In terms of size, the model will be comparable to large SUVs in its class. The overall length is expected to reach around 4.9 meters, with a wheelbase of approximately 2.9 meters. This should allow for a spacious interior accommodating five or seven passengers, while cargo capacity could exceed 700 liters.
Preliminary reports suggest that pricing in the Chinese market will start at around 300,000 yuan (approximately $41,000). With this pricing strategy, Geely aims to offer a technologically advanced off-road SUV at a significantly more accessible price than many European competitors.
