The collaboration between Lego and Koenigsegg has reached a new level, as the Danish toy manufacturer unveiled a full-size, drivable replica of the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear and tested it at the famous Goodwood Hillclimb in England. The project was created to celebrate the launch of a new Lego Technic set based on the hypercar. The real Sadair’s Spear produces 1,603 horsepower and is limited to just 30 examples worldwide.
Driven by Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh, the brick-built replica reached 69 mph (111 km/h), more than doubling the previous speed record for a large-scale Lego Technic vehicle. The former record holder, a Lego replica of the McLaren P1, managed a top speed of just 31 mph (50 km/h).
The car’s construction is just as impressive as its performance. It consists of 327,906 Lego elements and weighs approximately 3,968 pounds (1,800 kg), including around 882 pounds (400 kg) of Lego components. Development and construction required more than 9,400 hours of work and included the creation of numerous functioning mechanical features. One of the highlights is the “Ghost Mode” system, which opens the doors and hood while folding the mirrors at the touch of a button.
Koenigsegg founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg described the project as a celebration of a shared passion for engineering. Lundh added that driving the Lego-built hypercar felt surprisingly similar to driving a real vehicle.
