The Bavarian automaker has unveiled the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X concept, the direct successor to the production electric iX3.
The key innovation lies in the switch to sixth-generation eDrive technology, which uses new cylindrical lithium-ion cells instead of prismatic ones. This change increases energy density by 20% and improves charging speed by 30%, a crucial step in competing with Tesla and leading Chinese manufacturers.
The Neue Klasse architecture also abandons the traditional array of physical buttons. Most vehicle functions are now controlled via the central display and the BMW Panoramic Vision system.
Engineers have also introduced a new chassis and torque management system powered by four high-performance computers that process data up to ten times faster than current systems. This promises not only significantly increased driving range, but also an entirely new level of handling – one that remains true to BMW’s classic driver-focused character.
Production is expected to begin at BMW’s Debrecen plant, which will serve as the launch point for up to six new models based on the Neue Klasse platform over the next two years.
