Volkswagen has introduced the EV SUV ID. UNYX 08 in China – the first production model created in cooperation with Xpeng. The car went on sale starting at 229,900 yuan, which is around $33,300–33,700.
The development took only 24 months – an uncommonly short time for such a project. This became possible thanks to the local “In China, for China” strategy, where key technologies are developed within the country.
The model is built on an 800-volt platform and is equipped with batteries of 82 or 95 kWh. Maximum range is 700–730 km on the CLTC cycle, and charging from 10% to 80% takes around 20 minutes.
Versions with RWD and AWD are available. The base trim produces 230 kW, while the AWD version gets an additional front motor and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in around 4.9 seconds.
The technological aspect is a key feature of the model. The car is equipped with two Xpeng AI chips with a combined computing power of up to 1,500 TOPS. This enables advanced systems such as driver assistance and Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving.
The size is also impressive: the length is around 5,000 mm, and the wheelbase is 3,030 mm. Inside, there is a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and two 14.96-inch displays.
The ID. UNYX 08 is not just a new model, but an attempt by Volkswagen to regain its position in China. Judging by the level of Xpeng technology integration, the company is ready to play by the new rules of the market.
