American EV manufacturer Rivian has unveiled its new model – the Rivian R2. For the company, this premiere is particularly important, as the vehicle is expected to help the brand enter a more mass-market segment.
Until now, Rivian has focused primarily on premium electric vehicles. Models such as the Rivian R1T pickup and the Rivian R1S SUV both start at prices exceeding $70,000, which naturally limits the potential customer base. The new R2 crossover is intended to change that by offering a more accessible entry point into the brand’s lineup.
The starting price of the R2 is expected to be around $57,990. While this is still relatively expensive compared with some EV competitors, it represents a significant reduction compared to Rivian’s earlier models.
The new crossover is also more compact than the company’s previous vehicles. Its length is approximately 4.7 meters, and the interior is designed to accommodate five passengers. Despite the smaller size, the vehicle retains Rivian’s recognizable design, including the signature vertical LED lighting and clean body lines.
Performance figures are impressive. In its top configuration, the R2 is expected to deliver more than 650 horsepower, allowing the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in roughly 3 seconds.
The estimated driving range is around 530 km according to the EPA cycle, which places the model competitively within the electric crossover segment. The vehicle will also support fast charging, allowing a substantial portion of the battery capacity to be restored in approximately 30 minutes.
Production of the R2 is planned to take place in the U.S. state of Illinois. Looking ahead, Rivian aims to increase production volumes and expand its model lineup.
