The price of the updated Range Rover Evoque L has dropped dramatically in China, falling by as much as $33,945 as the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture shifts its focus to the new Freelander project. According to a local dealer, the current price of a new Evoque L starts at 200,000 yuan (approximately $29,545).
The Chery–JLR partnership was established in 2012, and two years later the companies launched the CJLR manufacturing plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. It was previously reported that the facility would cease production of all current models, including the Evoque L, by the end of 2026. The decision is part of the joint venture’s strategy to focus on developing the Freelander brand in an effort to regain lost market share.
Data from China EV DataTracker shows that only 3,976 Land Rover vehicles were delivered in China between January and May 2026, representing a 34.4% year-over-year decline. For comparison, Land Rover’s Chinese-built models reached their sales peak in 2017, when 61,915 vehicles were sold.
When it was launched, the Range Rover Evoque L carried a starting price of 429,800 yuan (about $63,490). However, reports recently emerged claiming that some dealers were offering the vehicle for as little as 179,800 yuan ($26,560). Chinese publication Mydrivers decided to verify those claims and contacted a Land Rover dealership in Jinan, Shandong Province.
