New Euro NCAP tests expose safety gaps in Dongfeng Box and Volkswagen T-Cross, with both models scoring three stars for structural and driver-assistance shortcomings.

The new Euro NCAP testing protocols have proven to be a tough challenge for many models, including the Dongfeng Box and the Volkswagen T-Cross. Both vehicles received only a three-star rating.
However, the reasons behind the scores differ.

The Chinese electric compact scored poorly due to structural weaknesses revealed during the frontal impact test. Weak areas in the door pillars and the lower part of the body structure increased the risk of injury in a frontal collision, which significantly reduced the overall score.

The Volkswagen T-Cross lost points for different reasons. Its active safety systems were found to be insufficient in recognizing obstacles and vulnerable road users. The model received particularly low marks for cyclist detection in reduced-visibility conditions.
Despite the fact that both cars demonstrate acceptable levels of passive safety, the stricter Euro NCAP requirements are now clearly separating models that are ready for future standards from those that need further upgrades to remain competitive on the European market.
