BYD has introduced an updated version of its Blade battery, a technology widely regarded as one of the safest battery designs currently used in electric vehicles. The new generation focuses on two key objectives: significantly faster charging and improved performance in cold climates.
According to the company, the upgraded battery can charge from 20% to nearly full capacity in less than 15 minutes. For EV owners, this represents a major improvement, bringing charging times closer to the time typically required to refuel a gasoline vehicle at a traditional filling station. Long charging times have historically been one of the most frequently cited drawbacks of electric vehicles.
Engineers have also focused heavily on improving performance in low temperatures. Cold weather traditionally reduces battery efficiency, leading to shorter driving range and slower charging speeds. In the new Blade battery generation, BYD claims these issues have been partially resolved, with the battery maintaining fast-charging capability even in severe winter conditions.
