Mercedes-Benz is testing a new four-door G-Class cabriolet with a soft top, built on the ICE platform and potentially launching in 2026.

The Mercedes-Benz Group has begun road-testing a new open-roof modification of its legendary G-Class off-roader. In the latest prototype photos, the car is seen with a soft convertible roof and reinforced bodywork around the C-pillar to compensate for the absence of a hard top.

The G-Class previously had open-top versions, but they were produced in limited numbers and usually as three-door models. The new version differs significantly from its predecessors – Mercedes has retained the full-size four-door body, making the model far more practical, as visible on the prototypes.

There will be no EV equivalent of the G-Class (EQG) in this configuration, as the cabriolet is being developed exclusively on the ICE platform.
No official announcement has been made yet, but it’s believed the release could happen as early as 2026.
