BYD has unveiled the new Song Ultra EV crossover, which immediately grabbed attention thanks to its uncommon charging speed.
The main feature of the model is Flash Charging technology, which allows the battery to be charged almost to full in just a few minutes. In real-world conditions, the car can increase its charge from 10% to 97% in around 9 minutes, which drastically changes the perception of EV charging speed.
This result became possible thanks to the use of the Blade Battery – a second-generation battery developed by BYD. The new battery features not only high energy density but also resistance to extreme conditions. Even in low temperatures, charging speed remains at a level that was previously considered unattainable for production models.
Technically, the Song Ultra EV is a midsize electric SUV with RWD. Depending on the trim, it is equipped with an electric motor producing 240–270 kW. The range is 700 km on the CLTC cycle, placing the model among the best long-range representatives of the segment.
At the same time, the manufacturer has focused not only on performance but also on pricing. The starting price in China is around 150,000–180,000 yuan, which is equivalent to $21,000–26,000 USD. This is significantly lower than analysts’ expectations and makes the car one of the most affordable in its class with comparable specifications.
Interest in the car is also confirmed by demand: even before the official launch, the number of preorders exceeded 20,000 units within just a few weeks.
