Aston Martin Recalls $3.5 Million Valkyrie Hypercars Over Fire Risk

Aston Martin has announced a recall of 2024 Valkyrie hypercars in the United States. The service campaign affects just seven vehicles, each valued at approximately $3.5 million. The information was published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall is linked to a potential defect in the master brake cylinder. According to Aston Martin, a sealing component inside the assembly may deform over time, preventing brake fluid from fully returning to the reservoir after the brake pedal is released.

As a result, pressure within the hydraulic system can rise to critical levels, causing the brakes to drag and temperatures to increase significantly. In extreme cases, the resin used in the carbon-fiber rear brake cooling duct could ignite due to excessive heat.

The company emphasized that such a chain of events is only possible under highly specific circumstances and is extremely unlikely during normal road use. The scenario requires the vehicle to be driven on a racetrack with the stability control system operating in ESP Sport, ESP Track, or ESP Off mode.

Additional conditions include excessive oversteer beyond certain slip-angle and speed thresholds, driver countersteering, and throttle application during or immediately after braking. Under those circumstances, the stability control system may apply braking force to the inside rear wheel, further increasing hydraulic pressure within the brake circuit.

The recall covers vehicles manufactured between December 19, 2023, and December 20, 2024. Owners are expected to be notified about the campaign in June, while Aston Martin plans to provide details of the repair procedure in November.

Dealers will replace the master brake cylinder with an updated unit featuring a redesigned piston and seal. The modification is intended to improve the reliability of the vehicle’s stability and traction control systems under extreme operating conditions.

Interestingly, a similar issue first surfaced during Valkyrie prototype testing in November 2022, when the defect reportedly caused a minor fire involving a body-side panel.
